Sunday Love, Link and Magic #1

May 26, 2013

Hello my loves!

A really nifty thing happened this weekend… Ziba is now on Pinterest!

I swore I would keep my social media channels down to the bare minimum (Twitter and Facebook).

And while I already had a Pinterest account, I only made it for my own personal amusement. It had nothing to do with Ziba and I wasn’t using it very much.

For the longest time, I had only one board on it called Homework. Basically, it was just me FANTASIZING to myself about how my move out west is going to change everything and how my new house is going to be insanely spacious and feng shui.

This was what Pinterest was to me: an online space for sublimating domestic fantasies. Like little girls playing tea party.

But… after much encouragement from my readers, I decided to make better use of my Pinterest account and transform it into a Lifestyle Visual Outlet for Ziba.

So! Do check out Ziba’s Pinterest Page

And begin a visual exploration on themes of Beauty, Elegance, SoulWit and so much more!

Vintage Reader

And now for your reading pleasure…

So today, I’m actually starting a new weekly feature called Sunday Love, Link and Magic.

It will be a time for me to share with you some of the most interesting bits of the week.

And for the very first feature, I’ve decided to share some of the most interesting posts that I’ve read this week! They’re written by other bloggers who I either follow regularly or have just recently discovered.

And I would love for you to discover them too!

Fantastic blog posts that I’ve read this week:

1) Top 20 Hydrating Foods & How To Incorporate Them In Your Daily Life – by Storybook Apothecary

Staying hydrated is important for keeping our skin healthy and glowing. And while many people try to get all their hydration through drinking water, it’s a lot easier AND tastier to get your hydration through the foods that you eat. This post highlights the great variety of skin nourishing and water-rich foods out there!

2) My current 3 Favorite Sunscreens – by ROKderm

ROKderm, who is a dermatologist to-be and a bona fide skincare guru, does not play around when it comes to the sun! She takes sun protection very seriously. As should you! Here are three sunscreens that she uses and recommends, all of them with at least SPF50. Read this review and see if there’s a sunscreen here that might work for you.

3) Old souvenirs – My First Start As A Makeup Artist – by Kris Discoveries

Kris is a beauty blogger who I consider to be a kindred spirit! She lived in Paris for many years, she is constantly traveling and she has serious entrepreneurial aspirations! In fact, she just recently launched her own beauty shop online. In this post, Kris reminisces about her first experiences as a makeup artist and gushes about how terrible her hair looked! But actually, I think she looked rather adorable.

4) Why I Love Rose Flower Water – by MademoiselleNature

I was very happy to discover MademoiselleNature, another blogger who writes about simple and sensible beauty tips, natural products, shopping for french cosmetics and analyzing things from a scientific approach!  In this post, she lists all the beautifying properties of rose floral water. I too love rose floral water. If you’ve never tried rose floral water before, then I beg of you… try it! It will make you see life en rose.

5) Fashion Blogging: It’s Not Just About Pretty Pictures – by Beautifully Invisible

If you’re a blogger and you have moments of doubt about what you’re doing, read this! I was inspired by the thoughtfulness of this post. It celebrates the invisible fashion blogger (I just substituted “fashion” with “beauty”) who doesn’t fall into any categories but just blogs for the love of it.

6) Spring Workout – by Healthy Frenchie

A French girl living in Canada and passionate about healthy living. I’m inspired by her level of dedication when it comes to fitness. And I also envy the natural outdoors in which she gets to play and do her workouts. I’m looking forward to reading more about her quest for a healthier way of living.

7) OST Pure Vitamin C20 Serum – By SweetJellyBean

Before I found Mad Hippie’s Vitamin C serum, I was always on the lookout of good vitamin C serums. This is a very thorough and positive review, and you should check it out if you’re shopping around for Vitamin C serums (though personally, I would probably stick with Mad Hippie’s Vitamin C serum because it’s free of suspicious sounding ingredients).

8) Highstreet vs. High End Eye Cream: Is The Price Really Justified – by Beautiful Solutions

If you’ve wondered whether it’s worth it to invest in pricey eye creams, you should read this article. Beautiful Solutions did her research quite well and her findings may help to clear up some questions you’ve had about eye creams. For example, why can’t you just use a regular moisturizer on your eyes?

9) Finding a suitable natural facial SPF – by Sugarpuffish

Sugarpuffish has been on the lookout for natural facial sunscreen. And as someone who refers to herself as “Queen of the Allergies,” I imagine she’s got some meticulously high standards. In this post, she recommends a few natural sunscreens. And one of them, John Masters Organics SPF 30 Natural Mineral Sunscreen, has been on my radar for quite some time now.

And last but not least…

10) Sunday Reads – by Luchessa

Luchessa has regularly been doing the Sunday Reads feature on her blog. And in fact, she was the one who encouraged me to write this post today. So be sure to visit her post as well and have a look around on her blog for more interesting reads and digs!

By the way!

If you look under the Follow Along section on the sidebar to your right…

You’ll also notice that I’ve brought back the Bloglovin icon and the Hellocoton icon (french version) back.

I know some of my readers use these platforms, so I wanted to make it easy for them to follow Ziba through these channels.

Ok! This ends today’s Sunday Love, Link and Magic feature!

I hope you’ll tune in next Sunday for another showcase of interesting beauty bits and bobs from the week.

Ziba’s 100th Post!!! And A Dance Tutorial

April 12, 2013

The 100th Post

Hello! And welcome to my 100th blog post on Ziba!!

I’m feeling super proud because when it comes to writing… I am such a slow poke!

Actually, when it comes to everything, I am like a turtle. So slow!!! And I have my fierce streak of perfectionism to thank for that.

At the beginning, when I would sit down to write a blog post, I couldn’t even get through the first sentence without editing it at least 20 times!

But now I can say that I’ve gotten a little faster (though by the time you read this, this sentence will probably already have been edited at least 3 times.)

But getting to this milestone (100th Post!!!) has been done with great pleasure. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being a beauty blogger. It’s changed the way I see things. And yes, in some ways, it has even changed my life.

I created Ziba because I had this idea to sell fantastic skincare and beauty products.

This blog was only an afterthought. It was just supposed to accompany the business side of things. But then shortly after, the blog began to take a life of its own. That’s when I decided to separate the blog and the shop.

Now, I dedicate so much of my time and energy towards the blog.

A lot of people become beauty bloggers because they’ve always loved beauty. And they’ve been regular readers of other beauty blogs.

But for me, up until about a year ago, I didn’t even know what a beauty blog was!!

Well, I never considered myself to be a very girly person.

Though I’d always been very mindful of skincare, all the other stuff, like makeup, my hair, my nails… I never really bothered with them.

But now, I’m finding myself hanging around makeup counters, watching hair tutorial videos and obsessing about the weak state of my nails.

And you know what?! I LUV IT!

Luv it.

I think it’s helping others.

Like when my friends and my readers turn to me with a question. Even when I don’t know the answer, I am super motivated to read up on the matter and get back to them with my findings and my thoughts.

Another favorite part has been getting to know so many other bloggers who are incredibly nice and brilliant people.

Keeping up this blog just wouldn’t haven been that fun without the support and encouragement from you, my dear readers. And from my friends and all my loved ones.

Which is why I’m saying Thank You!!! For everything.

Next month will be Ziba’s 1 Year Anniversary.

And as a way to celebrate and say thank you, I am going to reveal a GIVEAWAY this weekend!

I think you’ll really like it.

Just to give you a little clue about the giveaway… it’s going to include 3 beauty products. And 2 will be full sized products!!

This is a music video by one of my favorite bands, CSS. They’re a fun electro-rock group from Brazil.

Enjoy the music =)

Liebster Award

Ziba Participates In The Liebster Awards

February 17, 2013

My friend over at Young For Good recently nominated this blog for a Liebster Award!

Young For Good is a U.K. based beauty blogger who I’ve enjoyed following. She writes very thorough product reviews and gives insightful tips such as A Non-Cosmetic Way To Treat Dark Under-Eye Circles and How To Lose Weight Without Going On A Diet.

Coming from her, this nomination is a real compliment =)

To learn more about the origins and the concept behind the Liebster Award, Sopphey did all the digging.

For me, this is just a fun way to get to know more about the new up and coming bloggers out there and to support each other.

The Liebster Award Rules:

1) Post 11 things about yourself.
2) Answer the questions that the tagger/nominator has posted for you.
3) Create 11 questions and choose (nominate) 11 up and coming blogs and link them in the post.
4) Go to their page and tell them.

11 Things About Me:

1) My recent beauty obsession has taken over my life. As in, I can’t pass by any beauty shops without going in and touching and looking at their products.

2) I have dreams of opening my own beauty shop. Like a real physical shop. And not just one online.

3) My favorite part about being a blogger is the writing. I enjoy writing. I always have.

4) I’m an old school internet user. I was there during the heyday of The Chat Room. I also learned HTML before I was a teenager and made cutesy little websites.

5) I love Star Wars Angry Birds!! My favorite angry bird is Obi Wan Kenobi.

6) This morning, I went for a jog around the Tuilleries Garden next to the Louvre. The air felt very cool and fresh.

7) I want to dabble in Ikebana, which is the japanese art of flower arranging.

8) My current celebrity crush is Paz Vega.

9) I’m excited for the future!! I just feel like good things are coming.

10) Humor is my antidote to stress.

11) The last thing that made me LAUGH SO MUCH UNTIL I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE was:

The Best of the Internet’s Response To Beyoncé’s “Unflattering” Photos.

Answers to Young For Good’s Questions:

1) What makes a good blog post according to you?

Something that’s both informative as well as entertaining.

2) Blogging or vlogging? Would you consider starting a youtube channel?

I’ll stick to blogging for now. But there are some things that are better explained by video.

3) What’s your dream luxury beauty product: a product that you’d love to have but is just way to expensive?

I want the perfume Addict by Dior.

4) What’s the one thing in your beauty routine you still haven’t mastered?

Putting on foundation. That’s why I strive for perfect skin so I don’t ever have to bother with foundation.

5) Where do you buy your beauty products? In store or online?

Both. But I prefer going into stores and holding the product in my hand and sniffing at it.

6) What is your signature perfume scent?

Manifesto by Yves Saint Laurent. I wrote about it here.

7) Do you have a favourite makeup/skincare brand?

My favorite skincare brand may be one I’ve never tried before: Mad Hippie Skincare brand. We’ll find out soon enough. No favorite makeup brand yet.

8) China Glaze/ OPI/ Essie / Orly/ Wet n Wild …? What is your favourite nail polish brand?

There’s this store in Paris called Hema. It’s their equivalent of Target. That’s where I buy my nail polish because it’s super duper cheap.

9) What song always puts a smile on your face?

Any Cameroonian song instantly puts a smile on my face =)

10) What’s your typical Saturday morning like?

I walk to the bakery and buy a fresh baguette and a croissant. Then my boyfriend Oliver and I have coffee and breakfast together while we listen to a podcast.

11) Who’s your favourite beauty youtuber?

I watch a lot of videos by Makeup Geek. Her tutorials are packed with great makeup tips and ideas.
