International Spa & Beauty Exhibition In Paris – Part 2

March 11, 2013

Spa technology is serious business! I found this out on Saturday when I went to the Le Salon Mondial Spa & Beauté 2013 in Paris.

The Spa and Beauty Salon is a three day trade show that takes place from the 9th of March to today, the 11th of March. It brings together hundreds of exhibitors and professionals from the spa and beauty industry. But anyone can come as a visitor.

It’s a great event for discovering different brands and new beauty trends! Check out my post from yesterday if you want to learn about some awesome cosmetics brands that I discovered.

Today, I’ll quickly walk you through the photos of the Spa side of the exhibit. This was where you could find the stands that exhibited different equipments, machines and techniques that you may find during your next spa visit.

Overview of the Spa & Beauty Exhibition in Paris 2013

An overview. This is an overview of the Spa side of the exhibition. To the left, there are people gathered around an aqua-biking machine. The machine in the middle is also for aqua sport. At the top right, you can see exercise plates that you step on and it tones your muscles through vibration. Yes, I did try it.

Infrared Spa Treatment

Magic Red II. This is a body and facial treatment that combines infrared waves and electro-stimulation. Supposedly, infrared waves can penetrate into the tissues and transmit its heating effect to increase metabolism and result in weight loss.  At the same time, electrical stimulation induces muscle contractions to permit a localized weight loss. The result is reduced weight and improvement in muscle tone and reduction of cellulite. But the Magic Red II machine can also work to stimulate the mucles on the face. Through chromotherapy, the machine can help to purify the skin, brighten and even out skin complexion, and stimulates the regeneration of skin cells. For more information visit www.bioglamour.it.

Relaxing Hammock

Hammock Armchair. Just chilling out. This is the most comfortable hammock I’ve ever sat on. I almost fell asleep. Until I heard the price (from 640 euros to 750 euros). Still, this would be a dream hammock to have inside your house or out in the garden. It is made of ten cushions with three layers of cotton. Not only does it cocoon you, it even provides support if you want to kick out your legs. To learn more, visit Coleurs Feng Shui.

Water Filters

Ovopur Water Filters. These space age looking pods are actually porcelain water dispensers that have been designed with respect to the sustainability of the environment. Their Aquacrystal filters are made up of layers of charcoal, KDF 55 (copper alloy and pure zinc), crystal quartz and bioceramic micropore. Use of Ovopur water dispensers are ecological because they help reduce the consumption of water from plastic bottles. And the water tastes incredibly pure too. The company behind Ovupur also create other sustainable design solutions for professional spaces and for private spaces.

Quartz Massage Table

Quarts Massage Table.  This massage table is designed by a german company called Gharieni. The table is filled with small hard bits of quartz. Quarts is used because it retains heat quite well, and the source of heat is coming from the bottom. The table can be controlled to slant up and down.

Massage With Quartz

Before receiving a brief but super relaxing massage on the quartz massage table, the masseuse smoothed out the surface and laid a sheet over the table. The process reminded me of zen buddhist monks raking sand. Then I laid down on the table and she moved the quartz beneath me to create mounds or hollow out space to support the curves of my back. Then she used these white little pom-pom’s filled with the warm quartz to massage my sides and my shoulders.

Relaxed After Massage

Feeling super relaxed!

Miha Bodytec

MihaBodytec. The MihaBodytec is a system that helps to tone your muscles through electro stimulation. At first, I was hesitant to try it. But then curiosity quickly won me over. First, I put on a vest that was strapped with wires. Then, the rep who assisted me sprayed some water on another piece of the body suit. Of course, being the risk-averse person that I am, I had to ask if there was any chance of being electrocuted. But the lady laughingly assured me that I’d be alright.

Attaching the wires together. I’m wearing a vest around my torso. Two bands around my biceps. A wider band around my hips. And two bands around my thighs.

The assistant began to explain the concept to me. There were intervals when I had to tense and contract my muscles. The contraction would then be augmented by the bodytec. These intervals of contraction needed to be followed with de-contraction. So I would go back and forth between tensing my muscles, then relaxing. And this went on for twenty minutes. It was really tricky getting the timing right. The electro stimulation felt less like zaps and more like a tingly sensation whose intensity could be increased or decreased. Sometimes, if you straightened your limbs at the wrong time, the electro stimulation felt too intense.

Throughout the twenty minute workout, the MihaBodyTec trainer lead me through the different movements. There were lunges, raising the arm against resistance and lifting your leg. The movements actually reminded me a lot of yoga. You’re supposed to do this training twice a week. The next day, I felt incredibly sore. The same soreness that you feel when you’ve been doing strength training. To learn more about MihaBodytec, you can visit their website www.mihabodytec.fr. They also have a training center in Paris.

IN CONCLUSION

I’m still really sore from my brief workout with the MihaBodytec. I kind of wish the orders had been reversed–workout first, followed by a massage. But overall, it was a really cool experience.

I enjoyed discovering all the different brands and learning about different spa equipment and technology during the Spa & Beauty Exhibition.

I didn’t focus a lot on nails, but I did come away with some great nail care products and tips which I will save for another day.
