Clearderm Seaweed Essence Mask (Korean Face Mask)

November 26, 2012

A wonderful Korean friend of mine recently came to visit me in Paris and she gave me a few packs of this Seaweed Face Mask.

Normally, I do not have such easy access to Asian beauty products. But I’ve known for quite some time that Korea is a large beauty market with a great appetite for cosmetic products. But not only that, it also produces a lot of excellent beauty products. The beloved BB cream, for example, is a Korean invention. So as you can imagine, I’ve been really excited to try out this face mask.

The mask that we’re going to look at today is called Clearderm Seaweed Essence Mask, which is used to help “make your tired skin elastic, moistened and clear.”

Since I only have a precious few of these masks, I’ve been strategically using them only on the mornings after a late late night out. (Read more After-Party Skincare Tips)

On mornings when my skin feels especially devitalized and dehydrated (like this weekend for example), this mask worked as a fantastic pick-me-up!

How it Works: Each pack contains one paper clothe mask infused with 21g of the treatment essence. The mask removes impurities, supplies concentrated nutrition and provides vital moisture to the skin in order to refresh, soothe and firm tired skin and improve elasticity.

How to Use it: After cleansing, apply your regular moisturizer. Then open the pack and take out the paper cloth, carefully unfolding it. Position the mask over the face and smooth on lightly with fingertips. Leave on for 20-30 minutes. After removing the mask, gently massage the remaining essence into the skin.

Ingredients: Unfortunately, I can’t read the ingredients. It’s all in Korean, which is a bit frustrating as I would like to know what exactly it is that I’m putting on my face. The active ingredients are written out in English (a slight consolation) and it include Seaweeds Extract, Vitamins E & A and natural collagen.

The results:

While using this mask, I love the cooling effect that it has on my skin. Lack of sleep tends to make my skin flushed and irritated. So the mask’s cooling effect is a welcome touch. I’ve read that you can place an unopened pack in the fridge for an even cooler effect, or place it in warm water for a warming sensation. I prefer the cool sensation of the mask, as is.

One slight drawback that I noticed however is that the paper cloth is too large for my face. So I had to crease and crinkle the paper a bit to fit my face. As a result, every surface of my face did not get equal hydration.

But where there were results, they were positive and could be seen and felt immediately. My skin looked dewy, moist and radiant. It felt soft and firm to the touch. And throughout the day, my skin felt cool and refreshed.  These results lasted well into the following day.

What I Liked:

  • The soothing and cooling effect on my skin
  • It is deeply hydrating
  • Positive results: my skin looks moist, soft and firm
  • The effects last all day and even until the following morning

Drawbacks:

  • The paper cloth is too large for my face
  • I look really scary while I’m wearing the mask!
  • 20-30 minutes is a long time to wear a mask that could potentially frighten off people

Where to find Clearderm Seaweed Essence Mask: This was the tricky part. The mask is made by “Luke Total Skin Solution” and I’ve found it for sale online through Food for the Skin (Unfortunately, they only ship within the continental U.S.)

How much: $0.99 — which is not bad at all for how well this masks works! And I noticed that the Seaweed Essence is only one of ten varieties. So I will be looking for a way to get the masks shipped out here so I can try the other varieties.

What do you think? Would you be interested in trying this facial mask?
