Laast Christmas! I got me a set, of three Ruby Woo lipsticks, they came in a bag. This year, to save me from tears, I’m gonna write and blog about it!
Yes. That was to the tune of Last Christmas by Wham. And I don’t care.
So. Ruby Woo by MAC. This is the red lipstick.
Whether you love it or hate it, every obsessed beauty person out there has a tube of Ruby Woo lipstick in their stash. Or at least has heard of it.
And I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Originally, I’d only wanted the lipstick.
But MAC was selling a Holiday Keepsake Ruby Woo Collection for the 2014 holiday season. Not sure that they’re doing it again this year.
The set came in a white sparkly pearl encrusted baggy whose contents included the iconic red lipstick, a lip pencil and a lipgloss.
The price of the set was around $39, compared to the price of the lipstick by itself which is $17…
The Ruby Woo Lipstick
This is a bright red lipstick with a cool, blue undertone and a super matte finish.
It’s taken me a long time to warm up to the Ruby Woo lipstick. It’s hard to wear. You have to prep your lips first by exfoliating and moisturizing before applying. Which is like, two more steps to add to my routine.
And it feels uncomfortable and drying after an hour.
On the positive side, it is richly pigmented and is long lasting, weathering cup after cup of tea.
It’s nice. But not worth all the hype, I think.
The Ruby Woo Lip Pencil:
This is lighter in color than the lipstick. It goes on smoothly, and stays put as any good liner ought to. I’ve worn this on its own and even though it’s on the dry side, it’s great for avoiding getting lipstick on yo’ teef!
This pencil is pretty nifty.
The Ruby Woo Lipgloss:
This is a bright, deep red with a sleek plastic glossy finish. When it’s freshly applied, it looks a tad bit bawdy. But there are circumstances that call for bawdy.
Its thick, sticky texture makes it tricky to apply. One day, I figured it out. Use the lip pencil to line your lips first. Then apply lip gloss. DUH.
Now I’m a fan! And the color stays for about three hours. I even got complimented on it today 🙂
